Today, we will pick you up from your accommodation in Casablanca or from the airport and begin our journey to Chefchaouen.
On the way, we’ll make a brief stop in Rabat to visit some of its notable landmarks, including the Hassan Tower. Afterward, we continue to Chefchaouen, where you will spend the night in a charming riad in the heart of the Medina.
On the second day of our Imperial Cities and Sahara Desert tour, enjoy a free day to explore the blue streets of Chefchaouen at your own pace. Visit key attractions such as the bustling Stalk, the Akchour Waterfalls, the Kasbah Ethnographic Museum, the lively Utah Lhmam Square, and the Al-Swaiqa District. In the evening, return to your traditional riad for an overnight stay.
After breakfast at your riad, we’ll depart for Fes, with stops in Ouazzan and the Roman ruins of Volubilis. After a short drive, you’ll arrive at Volubilis, a remarkably well-preserved Roman site dating back to 225 BC, famous for its intricate mosaics from the 3rd century BC. Enjoy a guided tour and learn about the rich history of the Roman Empire.
Next, we continue to Meknes, the Ismaili capital of Morocco. Here, you’ll see the impressive Bab Mansour Gate, as well as the granary and the Sahrij Souani, historically used for irrigation.
The day concludes with a visit to the Moulay Ismail Mausoleum before we head to Fes, where you will spend the night in a beautiful riad within the medina.
After breakfast at your riad, you will begin your exploration of Fes, known as the Spiritual City of Morocco. Spend the morning wandering the medina’s narrow alleys and visiting key sites such as the historic Al Karaouine Mosque and University, the Bouanania Madrasa, the tanneries, and the Najjarine Fountain.
After lunch, we will take you outside the medina to see the Royal Palace gate, stroll through the Jewish quarter (Mellah), and visit a pottery cooperative.
In the afternoon, enjoy a panoramic view of the medina from one of the fortresses before returning to your riad for an overnight stay.
After breakfast, we will head south toward the Merzouga Desert, passing through Midelt and Errachidia. Our first stop is Ifrane, often called “the Switzerland of Morocco.” Along the way, you will enjoy views of the Middle and High Atlas Mountains.
We will visit Morocco’s largest cedar forest, home to the Barbary apes, and watch the landscape change as we approach Errachidia. After a lunch stop in Midelt, we continue through the scenic Ziz Valley, pausing for panoramic views.
Next, we drive through traditional Berber villages to Erfoud and Rissani, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty.
Upon arriving in Merzouga, you will be welcomed with mint tea before taking a camel ride to watch the sunset over Morocco’s tallest sand dunes. The night will be spent in a comfortable desert camp, where dinner will be served.
After breakfast and a refreshing shower at the desert camp, your camel guide will wake you early to witness what may be the most beautiful sunrise of your life.
You will then enjoy a leisurely camel trek back through the Erg Chebbi dunes, taking in the changing light and colors of the sand. Once back, you will meet your driver for the journey to Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, the highest and narrowest gorges in Morocco, where you can hike along the valley and admire the dramatic cliffs.
Next, we will drive through the Dades Valley, stopping to see the impressive rock formations known as “monkey toes.” The day concludes with an overnight stay in a riad or hotel within the gorge, including dinner and breakfast.
After breakfast, we’ll drive through the Dades Valley toward Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. This route, known as the Way of a Thousand Kasbahs, offers countless opportunities to capture some of the most memorable photographs of your trip.
Our first stop will be Kalaat Mgouna, the ‘rose city,’ where you can purchase rosewater and other rose products to take home. We then continue to Ouarzazate, often called the ‘Hollywood of Africa.’
Lunch will be near Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest kasbah in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage site, famous for its appearance in films such as Lawrence of Arabia and Gladiator.
From there, we travel over the majestic Tizi ‘n’ Tichka Pass (2,260 meters) in the High Atlas Mountains. Along the way, there is an opportunity to visit women’s cooperatives producing argan oil. We then continue to Marrakech, where the tour concludes at your hotel or riad.
