Your shared 3-day tour from Marrakech to Merzouga begins with an early morning departure from Marrakech, heading into the majestic High Atlas Mountains. The scenic drive along the Tizi n’Tichka Pass reveals breathtaking views of valleys and remote Berber villages perched along the mountainsides. Your first highlight is a visit to the ancient ksar of Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its traditional earthen architecture and its appearance in legendary films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. You’ll have free time to wander through its winding alleys and possibly meet a local family.
After enjoying a traditional Moroccan lunch, the journey continues toward the Dades Gorge, passing through the lush Skoura Oasis, celebrated for its palm groves and historic kasbahs. As you reach the Dades Valley, the scenery transforms into dramatic rock formations and deep gorges. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel, relax, and enjoy dinner while taking in the stunning views of the valley.
After breakfast, we depart for the spectacular Todra Gorge, one of Morocco’s most impressive natural landmarks. Known for its sheer limestone cliffs rising up to 300 meters, the gorge offers time to stroll through the canyon, admire the dramatic scenery, and capture stunning photographs.
We then continue toward the Sahara Desert, passing through the towns of Tinjdad and Erfoud, famous for its fossil workshops and reputation as the gateway to the desert. Arriving in Merzouga in the late afternoon, you’ll get ready for the day’s highlight—a memorable camel trek into the heart of the Erg Chebbi dunes. As you glide across the golden sands, the shifting colors of the dunes at sunset create an unforgettable experience.
Your journey leads to a traditional Berber desert camp, where you’ll be warmly welcomed. Enjoy a flavorful Moroccan dinner, followed by an evening of music and drumming around the campfire. Later, unwind beneath a brilliant, star-filled sky, far removed from the bustle of modern life.
Wake up early to experience one of the desert’s most breathtaking moments—the sunrise over the Sahara. As soft light spreads across the dunes, the sands glow in golden tones, creating a peaceful atmosphere and perfect photo opportunities.
After breakfast at the desert camp, we begin our return journey to Marrakech. Along the way, we travel through the lush Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley, renowned for its palm groves and ancient kasbahs. We stop in Ouarzazate, the “Gateway to the Sahara,” famous for its film studios and the historic Kasbah Taourirt, where you’ll have time to enjoy lunch.
The journey continues across the High Atlas Mountains before arriving back in Marrakech in the early evening. This shared 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour concludes with drop-off at your hotel or a central location, leaving you with unforgettable memories of your Moroccan Sahara adventure.
